What is the difference between normal LED lights and LED growth lights?

LED plant growth light uses LED (Light Emitting Diode) as the light source. Since the plants growth, it must need sunlight. LED growth light is a kind of light fixture that replaces the sunlight to give the plants growth. The  LED plant growth lights can emit specific red and blue light that plants need, so the LED growth light have very high efficiency, and the growth rate is almost 3 times faster than that of  plants that grow naturally.

The wavelength of the LED growth light used must meet the needs of plant growth, such as 740nm high red LED , 650NM red LED, 450nm blue LED and a small number of white LED  are also useful or  UV LED in the range of 395-420nm and so on, and the LED of these bands are different from the  blue and red light.

Application

The high-pressure sodium light  has the disadvantages of slow start-up, high power consumption, high flicker, and high temperature,while high-power LED lights have many advantages such as uong life of 50,000 hours, energy-saving, high luminous efficiency, high color rendering, no flicker, instant start and restart, and maintenance-free.

LEDs will completely replace high-pressure sodium light and metal halide lamps in more and more applications, high-pressure sodium light and metal halide light are only suitable for  greenhouses, and are not suitable for multi-layer cultivation racks and plant factories. LED plant lights can be used in greenhouses or multi-layer cultivation racks and plant factories.

High pressure sodium and metal halide lights are not suitable for the nursery stage, LED for all stages of plant growth.

The high-pressure sodium light and the metal halide light will generate high heat,a large number of heat will affect the temperature of the room. LED plants are cold light sources, and the temperature of the whole light fixture does not exceed 60 degrees, it will not cause any impact on  the environment.

Since the chip of LED plant light emits a single light, which  can be matched to adjust more targeted spectrum for plants.

Differences between COBs LED and Quantum Boards

Fixtures

To start with, the first difference lies in the appearance of fixtures. Both operate on different scales and turn out to be good for certain purposes. For instance, quantum board lights are ideal for outdoor use while COBs are designed to facilitate users indoors. Even after working on the same principle, both fixtures still maintain uniqueness from one another.

Light Spread

The next is the coverage area of both lighting fixtures. COB LED grow lights work as the single point of light that used to emanate outward, meaning that it takes some time to lighten the area out of its coverage area. On the other hand, quantum board grow lights are large and therefore, their diodes are capable to brighten the entire area at once.

With quantum board grow lights, you can be rest assured of getting a better light spread whereas, if you want intensify lighting in the center of the coverage area, then COBs are the right choice. Just remember that the latter version will require you to compromise light spread outside of the coverage area.

Canopy Penetration

Since COB LED grow lights used to have a high intensity beam of light, they can easily penetrate below the canopy; however, this penetration is incredible in the center while as it goes outside, its penetration power decreases. As for quantum board lights, their penetration is also good but doesn’t meet the performance of COBs.

Heat Management

Having multiple tiny diodes clustered at a small surface area, COBs pride themselves for being a powerful light source. They can produce a lot of heat naturally and therefore, the manufacturers have to include heat sinks of single COBs or fans for many. For quantum boards, they usually don’t need add-ons for the purpose. Rather, they are capable to cool themselves passively. All they need is an aluminum board while for intense conditions, a heatsink is enough to get control.

Although quantum board fixtures emit heat equal to other LED fixtures, what makes them different is their diodes that are spread all over and make passive cooling easier. This feature is not present in other fixtures.

Similarities between COBs LED and Quantum Boards

Quantum boards  and COBs LED growth lights both are good for indoor plants,so what are similarities between?

Similar  Spectrum

Both of these led grow lights adopt  full-spectrum white LEDs. Therefore, they produce different colored lights based on the temperature. The frequently option color temperatures are 3000K, 3500K, 5000K, and 6000K. The red wavelength produces the warmer white light, while the blue wavelength produces the cooler light. The warmer light is suitable for plants and the cooler light is for vegging.

  • For Quantum Board LEDs

To get even and smooth light spread, quantum board grow lights are the best. They can work well in limited vertical area because of their facility to be hung close to the plants.

  • For COB LED Grow Lights

They give better penetration and work for areas that need smaller lights with greater flexibility. In case of adding single COB lights, you have the freedom to arrange them in whatever configuration you want.

Plants generally absorb blue and red wavelengths, hence, LED plant growth lights are mixed light of red and blue. The light intensity also has a great relationship with the growth of plants.
